The goal of the Life Program is to contribute to the empowerment of refugees and their process of integration to the Dutch society, by offering an opportunity for connection, with a special focus on women and families. Creating communities for women has an impact on many levels: it influences the quality of parenting and family relations as well as of neighborhoods, contributes to social cohesion and integration in communities as well as bringing a grassroots voice to local governance. The kids team consists of a stable group of dedicated volunteers who organize various kids activities in the new and in the old AZC, in the K5 Community Center, and who provide quality daycare during adult activities, such as Women’s Yoga. “The more healthy relationships a child has, the more likely he will be to recover from trauma and thrive. Relationships are the agents of change and the most powerful therapy is human love.” — Bruce D. Perry – The Buddy Program offers participants the opportunity to embark on new experiences, new perspectives, discover new cultures and languages which help with their integration journey. It connects students and refugees to culture and art activities in Maastricht. Are you new to Maastricht or have you been here for a while and have not yet gotten the chance to discover and explore Maastricht? Well this is your chance! Our program aims to bridge friendly relationships between refugees and volunteers living in Maastricht through facilitating social ties in a spirit of mutual respect, learning and support. In 2021-2022 we aim to start a new initiative, called “RPM in de Buurt”, which aims to support refugees who become status holders after receiving their positive decision and transition from the AZC camp to their new home.
