Q: I would like to donate some clothes or materials
A: The Refugee Project Maastricht does not collect physical donations as such. However, there are other organisation in Maastricht that do.
The organisation Not-Just-A-Number collects donations to give to refugees and asylum seekers in Maastricht; there you will find opportunities to donate quickly. Send them an email!
Q: Who is behind the project?
A: The Refugee Project Maastricht was found in February 2015 as a collaboration of the InnBetween Student Chaplaincy and the Student Service Center. This project is funded by the Gemeente Maastricht and the University of Maastricht.
This organisation is run entirely by volunteers, most of which are students in Maastricht. We try to keep the hierarchy as flat as possible and we value the input of all of our volunteers equally. Want to know more about the project? Visit the Our Story page. Have more questions? Send us an email at email@example.com.
Q: Which events can I attend?
A: We have two kinds of events; ones that are open for everyone, and ones that are for refugees and asylum seekers only. All events that you can find on our Facebook page are open to the public and usually free of charge. Events that are not open can only be found on our website and are indicated as ‘refugees only’.
If you are not sure which events are open and which are not, please send us your question!
Q: What is the difference between participating and volunteering?
A: Our organisation is structured around stable teams of volunteers for an average period of 6 months. Volunteers can be a part of one of our 8 teams and take care of administrational, organisational, or practical tasks. For instance, a volunteer in the Communications team can take care of Social Media, or the website.
If you do not wish to become a stable part of the organisation, you can participate either as a buddy in the Connect Project or as an attendee in our regular events.
Q: What possibilities are there for refugees to be a part of the RPM?
A: All newcomers – no matter their asylum status – are welcome to our project. As a refugee or asylum seeker, you can join our language teams and have access to regular weekly language groups in English and/or Dutch to practice their language skills. They can also participate in the weekly Dutch Language Cafes every Monday where they can practice their skills in a more relaxed environment.
Our Sports and Music teams organise several activities, such as a weekly football practice and a choir, that you can join. All these activities are free of charge and are there to create an atmosphere where friendships can be developed. We also have a buddy project called Connect. There, you can get matched with locals or students based on your mutual interest and create meaningful and lasting relationships.
If you have questions about what you can do in the Refugee Project Maastricht, send us a message!
Q: How do I come to the InnBetween?
A: The InnBetween is located on the Capucijnenstraat 122 in Maastricht. The building is a little difficult to find as it is between the Montessori School and Studentenvereniging Circumflex. Our friends at the InnBetween have created a video to help you find your way from the Markt Square:
