The Sports Team organizes opportunities to connect, work out and play sports together. We organise football, women’s volleyball, active days, games for kids and activities in the AZC or at other Maastricht facilities!
Our goal is to create a great opportunity for people and communities to meet, have fun together and stay active! Would you like to join? Grab your running shoes and come to our events!
Music is a good connector of people and an excellent conductor of feelings! This project, like all others, is based on the idea of facilitating meaningful connections between people of different backgrounds and cultures. We use the universal language of music and create a warm atmosphere of rhythm and fun.
The project is mostly directed towards young adults, but everyone is always welcome to make music, dance to the rhythm or just simply listen and relax is always welcome!
Learning Dutch is surely the most important aspect of integration. The Language Tutoring Project hosts two language initiatives: the ‘English Tutoring Project’ and the ‘Dutch Tutoring Project’. They support the intercultural exchange between people of the refugee and the Maastricht Community – from both sides equally. They create a social space and comfort-zone, where everybody is welcome to help and join. All is organised by volunteering tutors, who want to lay a reliable basis for regular language tutoring sessions. The sessions take place several times a week on BASIC & INTERMEDIATE levels in a non-hierarchical, respectful and interculturally sensitive environment. The free tutorials do not allow for certification, though are rather meant to be an empowering knowledge pool that helps to keep the participants busy due to a feeling of hope and progress.
The sessions are based on communication practice, simulations, everyday life situation practice, vocabulary practice, trips to the city center, picnics and other socials. Besides from tutoring, the group tries to support refugees with bureaucratic burdens, such as applications. The outcome is that the volunteers and participants turn into friends that help each other on all social levels of integration and similarly gain new experiences and skills due to the new friendships.
The Connect Project's goal is to encourage and support people to build lasting and meaningful connections. We set up groups consisting of refugees, students and Maastricht locals based on their common interests. Current projects are sports-, cooking- or language buddies and a project that focuses on connecting refugee women with local women. Furthermore, a gardening project is in the making which will collaborate with a local butterfly project.
Any project stops if valuable information is not flowing. We are a group, that supports the other committees by ensuring that volunteers and new citizens know about us and what we do so everybody can get involved.
The need for communication is one of the basic and foundational pieces of any project. The Communications and Social Media team is in charge of all the intra-project communications and marketing issues. Of course, since we are not the only social project in Maastricht or in the area, our team is responsible for creating bridges between projects and securing a welcoming environment for all new and existing people in our community. Therefore, our reach does not stop within the limits of the Refugee Project Maastricht but expands to other organisations as well.
