Languages
Language learning at RPM is about more than finding the right words. In our classes and cafés, people practise together, help one another and build the confidence to use a language in everyday life. It’s also a way to meet people from across Maastricht.
At RPM participants (refugees with or without status) can join Dutch or English classes at different levels, for free. Just come as you are, no sign up required. All classes are 90 minutes long and are given in three blocks of 10 weeks from September until June.
Arabic for beginners is refugee-led, and therefore a #flipthescript activity, open to all Maastricht residents who are interested in learning Arabic. This class is donation based. All proceeds will go to a good cause.
All language classes take place at the K5 Community Center: Keizer Karelplein 5, Maastricht (enter via the Maternushof).

Start with the beginners’ class (A1/A2) or practice speaking in a relaxed setting at the Dutch Language Café.
English
MON 16:30-18:00 English beginners .TUE 16:30-18:00 English language cafe WED 19:00-20.30 English intermediate
Join a beginners’ class (A1/A2), develop your skills in the intermediate class (B1/B2), or practice conversation at the English Language Café. At the end of the year you can obtain an official certificate.

Enjoy learning a new language in our Arabic beginners’ class, taught by our refugee volunteers. Learning goes both ways at RPM: everyone has knowledge to share.

With RPM I never feel alienated or lonely.. with RPM I got rid of depression and negative feelings, and I met many friends. I learn languages and I learn about the culture.. and they also offered me the chance to become a volunteer, which increased my self confidence, and made me proud of myself as I feel I can participate and leave a mark with RPM. So much love to RPM.
Volunteering
Language volunteers do more than teach vocabulary. They help create a welcoming space where people feel comfortable practising, asking questions and getting to know one another.
You could help lead a class, support a small group or keep a conversation going at a language café. Whether you have teaching experience or simply enjoy helping people learn, we’d love to hear what you could bring. Volunteers come from different backgrounds, and everyone has something to share.
